40,000 years ago, during the Ice Age, saber-toothed cats, lions, camels, giant sloths, mastodons, short-faced bears, dire wolves and other prehistoric creatures roamed the Los Angeles basin. Some of the animals ventured into the tar pits and became trapped. We visited the Page Museum to learn more about the Ice Age.
